Most of what decides whether your reception works is not the music, it is the forty seconds either side of every song. Who tells two hundred people the bar has moved, how the room knows dinner is finishing, whether the toasts start while everyone is seated or while half the room is still in the hallway. That is emcee work, and a DJ who only plays records leaves all of it to whoever picks up the microphone first.

Ours do both, from one position, which is why the night does not stall between things.

What we actually plan with you is the order of the evening and the handful of songs that carry weight: the entrance, the first dance, the parent dances, the last song. Everything between those is read on the night, because no playlist written three months in advance knows whether your room is running ahead of the timeline or behind it, whether the bar queue is quietly eating your dance floor, or whether the table in the corner just needs a reason to stand up. Those are the calls that decide the night and every one of them gets made in the moment.

We have run over 2,500 events since 2009, and the useful part of that is not the number, it is that almost nothing that happens in a reception is new to us.

Is the DJ also the emcee?
Yes. Every Modern Era Weddings DJ is also a trained emcee. The same person manages music, microphone, introductions, toasts, and timeline announcements, which keeps the music and the spoken program tightly coordinated all night.
Can we request specific songs and submit a do-not-play list?
Absolutely. Every couple gets access to our online planning portal where you can build your must-play list, do-not-play list, ceremony selections, processional and recessional cues, and special-moment songs. We meet at least once before the event to walk through the timeline together.
What kind of sound system do you use?
Professional-grade audio equipment from manufacturers we have worked with for years and trust, along with backup equipment on-site for every event.
How is this service priced?
Modern Era Weddings uses day-rate pricing rather than hourly billing — your DJ, photo, and video packages cover unlimited hours on the day of your event. Photo booth packages run a fixed 5 hours of active rental time (additional hours are available as an upgrade). Pricing depends on the artist or DJ you choose, venue location, equipment needs, and whether the service is part of a multi-event Signature Wedding Weekend. Every couple receives a custom quote within 24 hours of submitting a consultation request.
Where is this service available?
This service is available throughout Southwest Florida (Naples, Marco Island, Sarasota, Tampa, Fort Myers), the Florida Keys (Upper Keys: Key Largo & Islamorada; Middle Keys: Marathon & Duck Key; and Key West), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and the Hudson Valley and Finger Lakes regions of New York. Travel is also available for destination weddings in the Berkshires, the Poconos, the DC metro, and nationwide.
How far in advance should I book?
For peak season (October-May in Florida, May-October in Pittsburgh) we recommend booking 9 to 12 months in advance. Off-season and short-notice bookings are accepted when availability allows.
How is DJ pricing structured at Modern Era?
DJ packages start at $2,500 and are flat day-rate, not hourly — your DJ covers unlimited hours across every space at your venue. The only thing that varies between artists is the artist's own day rate; equipment, planning consultations, and online planning tools are identical across the roster.
How do we choose which DJ on the roster will perform at our wedding?
Each artist on our roster has a public profile page with bio, specialties, and rate. After your consultation, we match you with the artists whose style and availability fit your date, and you pick from that shortlist — or you can request a specific DJ by name from the start.
